Jharkhand Tourism to focus on safe tourism practices :
Jharkhand Tourism, which aims at promoting Adventure Tourism in order to attract and engage the youth, is now paying special emphasis on the safety and security aspect of various tourism practices. After being in news for some proposed terrorist attacks, the state wants to promote tourism by seeking assistance from experts, ex-servicemen and local youth to ensure safety of tourists. The department is engaging ex-servicemen as 'Paryatak Suraksha Mitra' to ensure safety in 78 identified spots in the state as the part of the first phase. “The 'Paryatak Suraksha Mitra' will look after the safety and security of airports, railway stations and bus stands, while they will be provided with proper training, conveyances and contract-based honorarium,” stated Arun Kumar Singh, Secretary, Jharkhand Tourism.
The state Tourism Department is also planning to engage communities and locals as stakeholders for promoting Eco, Rural, Religious and Adventure Tourism within the state.The state is all set to start an adventure sports institute of international standards. Jharkhand Tourism is leaning more on security measures, as the institute is going to lend expertise on intricate adventure sports activities. Singh said, “The Jharkhand Adventure Tourism Institute will promote all kinds of adventure sports activities existing globally. We will provide state-of-the-art facilities for all kind of water and aero sports, including hot air ballooning, which needs expertise and special safety measures.” The adventure sports institute is currently looking for tie-ups with adventure sports majors within and outside the country to get proper affiliations, expertise and technical know-how. Adding further Singh said, “The adventure sports majors present in the North East will be the best for us, as we require experts who can provide good sports experience, as well as safe sport activities.”
The state Tourism Department is planning to engage a large number of locals for tourism activities and will organise special educational programmes and workshops for the same. The state government is also educating the youth of the state as experts of adventure sports, Mine Tourism and guides. “As we have started Mining Tourism in collaboration with Central Coalfields, Hindalco, Essar etc., we are planning for ultimate safety measures to avoid accidents in mines, which are quite likely,” informed Singh.
